Why your support matters

In 2024, our community generously supported fundraising efforts for the Sports Science Laboratory. However, through the planning process, it became clear that to maximise the educational and research potential of the Lab, we first needed to build the foundation for practical data collection—the Sports Science Gym. The physical outputs and performance metrics gathered through strength and conditioning are essential to drive meaningful analysis and insights in the Lab.

This led to a revised project sequence and the delivery of Phase One: a state-of-the-art Sports Science Gym, now complete and fully operational. Key features include:

  • Custom racks, bumper plates, kettlebells, benches, GHDs, and more
  • A full wrestling/stretching mat area with 800mm wall padding, generously provided by PLAE
  • Digital displays showcasing training programs and visualising the broader Sports Science vision
  • Bespoke flooring and custom graphics reflecting BGS values

With the Gym now serving as a high-performance training hub, we are ready to move forward with Phase Two: the development of the Sports Science Laboratory.

The Lab will serve as a dynamic, interdisciplinary space where students examine the science of sport and human performance. It will draw upon key disciplines—physiology, biomechanics, learning design, and performance analysis—to investigate how athletes train, compete, and improve. Using contemporary, evidence-based practices, students will evaluate physical outputs, interpret real-time performance metrics, and apply critical insights to enhance individual and team outcomes.

By integrating data science, engineering, and technology, the Lab will bridge the gap between practice and theory, significantly enriching the School’s STEAM curriculum and sporting programs.

The third pillar of the Sports Science precinct includes our practical teaching and training facilities—our ovals, pool, gymnasium, courts, and indoor sports centre.

Phase One was made possible by the incredible support of our BGS community. As we look ahead, we seek your continued partnership to help complete the vision—bringing to life a world-class Sports Science precinct that will benefit students for generations to come.

With major global events such as the Rugby World Cup and the Olympic and Paralympic Games set to arrive on our shores, Brisbane Grammar School is uniquely positioned to attract and host elite-level teams. Our growing Sports Science precinct not only enhances student learning and wellbeing, but also opens the door to world-class sporting partnerships and experiences further inspiring the next generation of BGS students to strive for excellence.
